Molecular Discovery Lab

Human blood contains ~2,500 metabolites, of which ~1,000 are uncharacterized products of unknown human metabolism. We are on a mission to study this novel biochemistry with an eye to new drug targets and diagnostic markers

Research

We investigate the dark matter of the human metabolome—the thousands of metabolites circulating in blood whose structures, origins, and functions remain unknown. Many of these enigmatic molecules are tightly linked to cardiovascular disease, yet have been overlooked by traditional research.

Our lab combines high-resolution mass spectrometry, large-scale cohort data, and AI-driven analytics to decode this hidden layer of human biochemistry. From structural elucidation to enzyme discovery and functional validation in model systems, we aim to map uncharted metabolic circuits that shape disease risk and resilience. By uncovering these pathways, we open new directions for diagnostics, therapeutics, and our fundamental understanding of cardiovascular biology.
